How low does a benchtop need to be for seated use?
We work to a maximum of 850mm for a benchtop that is used seated, with clear knee space underneath at the sink and the cooktop. The exact height is set against the chair you use, not against a standard.
Can you modify the kitchen I already have?
Yes. A great deal is achieved by changing the parts you touch — pull-out storage, D-shaped handles, a lowered section of bench, better lighting, and higher-contrast surfaces — without replacing the whole room.
Is a kitchen modification covered by funding?
Kitchen work is regularly funded through the NDIS, a Home Care Package, or SWEP where it is tied to an assessed need. We quote in the format your plan manager or case manager needs, and we work from your occupational therapist’s recommendations.
What happens to my appliances?
Appliances that still suit you are reused and reinstalled. Where reach or controls are the problem, we can specify appliances that are easier to use seated — a wall oven at bench height rather than under the bench is the single most common change.
