Home modificationsfor veterans, under RAP.

The Rehabilitation Appliances Program funds equipment and home modifications that help eligible veterans live safely and independently. Here is what we need, and what happens after you send it.

What the RehabilitationAppliances Program covers.

RAP is an Australian Government programme run by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. It gives eligible clients access to assistive devices, equipment, and home modifications intended to keep them safe and independent at home.

For our part of it, that usually means the same work as everywhere else on this site — grab rails, handrails, ramps, steps, shower modifications, and access into and around the house — arriving through a different door and paid for by a different party.

What we do not do is tell anybody what they are entitled to. Eligibility for a particular item is DVA’s determination, made on the prescribing therapist’s assessment. Our part starts once that assessment exists.

Send us a RAP referral

The two ways a RAP jobreaches us.

Either works. The first is usually faster because nothing waits on a redirection.

  • Send the forms to us directly

Email the RAP paperwork and the signed authority to install straight through, and we take it from there — the approval request, the purchase order, and the scheduling. This is the quickest route and the one we would suggest.

  • Nominate us on the form to DVA

If you are submitting to DVA yourself, write Vital Ease on the RAP form as the supplier. The order then comes to us once DVA has assessed it, and we contact the client to book the work.

How a RAP jobruns.

  1. The prescription and forms arrive

The occupational therapist submits the RAP paperwork, the direct order form, and the authority to install — either to the provider directly, or to us to handle.

  2. Approval and purchase order

The approval is sought and a purchase order is issued to us for the work. Nothing is booked or built before that order exists.

  3. Works are scheduled with the client

Stock items are usually completed in a single visit. Custom items take two: a measure, at which the design, the position, and the finish are confirmed on site with the client, and then the installation.

  4. Items are manufactured

Custom items are made to the measured dimensions. If anything in the therapist’s specification has to change, we come back to you for approval on scope and to the funding body on price before we proceed.

  5. Installation

The second visit, at which the custom items go in. The client is shown how to use what has been installed before we leave.

  6. Completion and invoice

You are notified by email that the work is finished, with photographs of it, and the invoice is issued to the funding provider under the terms of the agreement in place.

Questions

What people ask aboutDVA / RAP.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Rehabilitation Appliances Program?
RAP is an Australian Government programme managed by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. It provides eligible clients with assistive devices, equipment, and home modifications intended to support safer and more independent living at home. For home modification work it covers much the same ground as other funding pathways — rails, ramps, steps, and bathroom access — with its own forms and its own approval route.
What forms does a DVA RAP referral need?
The RAP paperwork itself, the direct order form, and a signed authority to install. The authority to install is the one most often missing, and without it the work cannot be scheduled no matter how far along the approval is. Send all three together and the job moves straight to the approval step rather than pausing while a signature is chased.
Can I nominate Vital Ease on the RAP form when I submit to DVA?
Yes. If you are submitting to the Department directly rather than sending the paperwork to us, write Vital Ease on the RAP form as the supplier and the order reaches us once DVA has assessed it. Either route works. Sending the forms to us is generally quicker simply because nothing waits on a redirection, but nominating us on the form is perfectly standard.
Who is invoiced for DVA work?
The funding provider, under the terms of the agreement in place, once the work is complete. The veteran is not asked to pay for approved RAP work and then claim it back. You are notified by email when the job is finished and sent photographs of the completed work at the same time, so your file is closed out without having to ring and ask.
