A shower head fixed high on the wall points where you would stand. Sit down on a shower seat, and the water goes over your head and down the wall behind you.
A hand shower on a hose comes down to you. You can wash without turning under the water, and a carer can point the water where it is needed.
It is one of the smallest changes we make, and often the one that makes the rest of the shower work.
Ways to fita hand shower.
It depends on who uses the shower, and whether you can drill.
On a grab rail you can hold
The head slides along a strong rail on the wall, so you get water at any height and a rail to hold. OTs recommend it most.
On a grab rail you already have
A bracket clips onto your existing grab rail, so nothing new is drilled.
On a wall hook
A hook that sticks to the tiles, with no drilling. Good for a rental, but it holds the shower head only, never your weight.
On a sliding rail
A light rail with a slider, so each person can set their own height. It is not made to be held.
For low water pressure
Older homes with hot water fed from a tank in the roof need a special hand shower. Tell us when you call.
Two heads, one shower
A hand shower beside your fixed shower head, with a switch between them. Good when one person sits and another stands.
