Doors that stop beingthe obstacle.
Threshold inserts, safety hinges, magnetic catches, pull straps, and door reversals — small changes to the door itself, without building work.

The doorway is wherepeople get stuck.
A house can have every rail and ramp it needs and still be hard to live in, because the doors are wrong. A lip at the threshold stops a walker dead. A door that swings into a small bathroom leaves no room to turn. A door that will not stay open means somebody is holding it with one hand and a frame with the other.
None of that needs a builder. Almost everything on this page is a half-day job on the door that is already hung, and between them they remove more daily friction than any single larger modification.
The one that matters most is the one nobody thinks about until it is too late: an inward-opening toilet or bathroom door cannot be got past from the outside if somebody has fallen behind it. That is what the hinges page is for.
Door modifications that makea real difference.
Three kinds of change, and most households need one or two rather than all of them.
Threshold and doorway improvements
Threshold inserts and seals take out the lip at the door, remove the trip hazard, and give a level transition between rooms and out through external doors.
Door hardware modifications
Safety hinges, lift-off hinges, magnetic catches, and pull straps let a door be opened, held, closed, or taken off entirely with very little effort.
Door reversal
Changing the direction a door swings, which buys usable floor space in a small room — often the difference between a bathroom a walker fits in and one it does not.

Types of doorsolutions.
Each has its own page, with what it suits and what it does not.
Door threshold inserts
Made to measure in timber, hardwood, or rubber, to level a door sill and remove the lip. The one item here that takes two visits.
Door hinges
Safety hinges and lift-off hinges, so an inward-opening bathroom or toilet door can be got past from the outside in an emergency.
Door magnets
Magnetic catches that hold a swing door open, freeing both hands for a frame or a tray.
Adjustable door pull strap
A strap that lets someone pull a door closed behind them from a seated position or without turning around.
Door reversal
Rehanging a door to swing the other way, for circulation space and safer access in a confined room.
Aluminium cover strips
Transition strips where two floor surfaces meet, so a wheel or a foot crosses cleanly between carpet, vinyl, tile, and boards.
Before you book, two things to know.
Most of this is fixed work, and it means drilling
Hinges, magnets, straps, cover strips, and timber threshold inserts are all screwed into the door, the frame, or the floor. Hinges and reversals in particular alter the door and the jamb permanently.
One item leaves no mark at all
A rubber threshold insert is set in position rather than fixed down. Where permission is the obstacle, that is usually the way around it.
If you rent, ask first
For anything drilled you will need the owner’s or the agent’s permission before we can start. Ring us and we will tell you what they usually want to see, and which parts of the job are reversible.
We patch, but we do not match paint
Where a hinge or a latch is moved, the old position is filled and primed. Repainting the door or the architrave to match the room is not part of the job, and we say so at the quote rather than afterwards.
Brochuresand guides.
The documents an occupational therapist, a plan manager, or a builder usually asks us for. We are preparing these now — ring or email in the meantime and we will send what you need.

Standard items:one visit.
Quoting
Quoted to the occupational therapist’s specification where there is one, with our recommendations alongside it. Funding is approved before we start.
On-site consultation and installation
The same tradesperson comes out and carries out the work. Magnets, cover strips, hinges, reversals, and pull straps are all this track.
Warranty
The work is carried out by licensed tradespeople and backed by the relevant warranties. If something is not right, ring the same number you rang the first time.
Threshold inserts:two visits.
Quoting
Quoted to the occupational therapist’s specification where there is one. Funding is approved before anything is made.
Measurement
A first visit to measure the sill, the fall away from the door, and what the insert has to meet on both sides. Materials and finishes are shown at the same time.
Manufacture
Made to those measurements rather than cut down from stock on the day.
Installation
A second visit to fit it, by the same team that measured.
Warranty
The work is carried out by licensed tradespeople and backed by the relevant warranties. If something is not right, ring the same number you rang the first time.
Getting to the dooris a different job.
This page is about the door itself. The path, the steps, and the ramp up to it are covered on the access pages, and they are usually quoted together with the threshold so the whole approach is done in one go.
