The floor is only slipperywhen it is wet.
A polished tile is perfectly safe dry and treacherous with a film of water on it, which is why bathroom floors, shower bases, laundry floors, and the paving outside a back door account for such a large share of falls at home.
The obvious fix is to replace the floor, and sometimes that is right. But a tiled bathroom is expensive to redo, it takes the room out of use for a week or more, and for a great many houses the floor is fine apart from one thing: it has no grip when it is wet.
Everything on this page treats the surface that is already there. Nothing is demolished, most of it is done in a visit, and some of it comes off again cleanly at the end of a lease.

Types of non-slipsolutions.
Each has its own page. Which one you want is decided by the surface and by whether it can be altered permanently.
Non-slip floor treatments
A clear coating that adds a fine grit texture underfoot when wet and is close to invisible dry. For tiled bathrooms, shower bases, and any floor you want to keep the look of.
Non-slip tape and paint
Applied strips rather than a whole-floor treatment. Clear skin-safe tape for a shower base, coloured tape for step edges indoors and out, and vision paint for rough external surfaces.
Stair nosings and strips
A fixed nosing along the front edge of each tread, with a grit surface and a high-visibility marking. For a staircase that gets used every day, this is the durable answer.

Most of this leaves no mark
Tape, vision paint, and stair nosing strips are applied to the surface and can be taken up again. Nothing is drilled and nothing structural is altered, which makes them rare among home modifications: they need nobody’s permission.
A treatment sits on the surface, not in it
Traditional slip treatments etch the tile permanently. The clear treatments we use are applied on top and can be removed, so the tile underneath is unchanged.
Nothing here fixes a floor that is failing
Cracked tiles, drummy tiles, a floor that has lifted, or waterproofing that has gone are not grip problems and no treatment will help. We say so at the visit rather than coating over it.
Grip is not the only thing that prevents a fall
Most of the bathroom falls we are called out after involved reaching or standing up, not sliding. A treatment is often the right first move and rarely the only one — we will mention a rail or a seat if the visit suggests it.

Quoting
Quoted to the occupational therapist’s specification where there is one, with our recommendations alongside it. Funding is approved before we start.
On-site consultation and installation
The same tradesperson checks the surface, confirms the treatment suits it, prepares the floor, and applies it. One visit, though a treated floor needs a short curing period before it is walked on.
Warranty
The work is carried out by licensed tradespeople and backed by the relevant warranties. If something is not right, ring the same number you rang the first time.
When the floor really doesneed replacing.
Where tiles are cracked or drummy, the surface is worn through, or the floor was never specified for someone unsteady on their feet, treating it is putting grip on a problem that is underneath.
