Questions

What people ask aboutgrab rails.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a grab rail be fixed to a tiled wall?
Yes. The rail is fixed through the tile into the structure behind it — a stud, noggin, or backing plate — never into the tile or the plasterboard alone. Where there is nothing solid behind the wall, we install backing before the rail goes on.
Is a towel rail good enough to hold on to?
No. A towel rail is fixed to hold a towel, and it is the single most common thing to fail when somebody grabs it in a fall. A grab rail is rated to take a person’s full weight and is fixed accordingly.
Where should the rails go?
That is decided on site, against the way you actually move — where you reach now, which side you lead with, and where you have caught yourself before. It is not read off a catalogue, and it is why we visit before we quote.
Do rails have to look institutional?
No. Rails come in a range of finishes and powder-coated colours, so they can sit with your bathroom rather than announce themselves. A well-chosen rail reads as a fitting, not as equipment.
Can you install rails on stairs and outside?
Yes. Banister rails are made to the length and shape of your stairs, and outdoor rails are specified in corrosion-resistant materials so they last beside a step, a path, or a deck.
