Most falls on steps don’t happen because a step is high. They happen because the step is too small for your whole foot, or one step is a different height from the rest.
We build steps that are deep, even, and wide, with a rail to hold. If you use a four-wheel walker, we build platform steps big enough to hold the whole walker.

Steps for walking
Deep enough for your whole foot (about 300–350mm), and every step the same height. Wide enough for a carer beside you.
Platform steps for walkers
Deep enough for the whole walker (about 900–1200mm), so all four wheels are on the step before you move your feet.

Why a walker needsa platform.
On an ordinary step, a four-wheel walker ends up with two wheels up and two wheels down. It won’t sit flat, and it can tip just as you lean on it.
A platform step is deep enough for the whole walker. You roll it up, let it settle, then step up yourself. It is slower, and much safer.
Platforms take up more ground, so we check the space on the visit. If there isn’t room, we will talk to you about a ramp instead.

Composite decking
Low maintenance. It won’t rot or rust and never needs painting. Every step gets a bright edge strip, so it is easy to see.
Merbau timber
A durable hardwood that can match your deck or verandah.
Rubber
Weatherproof and removable. Nothing is drilled, so it suits a rental.

We quote these at the same time as your steps, so there is only one approval.
Banister rails
A rail on one side or both, the full length of the steps. We recommend one on every set.
Stair nosings
A bright, non-slip strip on the edge of each step. It can go on steps you already have.
Non-slip tape and paint
Extra grip on steps that get wet, and a bright line where you need to see the edge.
Door threshold inserts
Takes out the lip at the top of the steps, where many people trip and walkers get stuck.
Door magnets
Holds the door open, so your hands are free for the rail or the walker.
Sensor lighting
A light that comes on by itself as you walk up to the steps at night.
